On the 29th November 1899, Joan Gamper founded FC Barcelona with the help of eleven other enthusiasts of “Futbol”, a game still largely unknown in the country. Could he have imagined that some day, a sapling he planted would grow into a huge tree, a people’s passion and a source of joy to millions even outside Catalunya?
Barça, today, is not just a football club. It is for millions a symbol of their identity, not just in terms of the fandom but the values it instills. Through all the turbulent times, Barça was the standard that represented Catalunya and the Catalan desire for freedom, a symbolism that is well represented by the motto – “mes qué un club!!”
For more than a hundred years now, Barça has seen moments of glory and pain. But more than the trophies, it is the legacy of stalwarts like Rinus Michels, Johan Cruijff and Pep Guardiola that will always live here. From Les Courts to Camp Nou, here is our club. A people’s passion! If there was no Barça, what would we wake up to?
Visca Barça y Visca Catalunya!
